Sophie Jaff and Kathleen Tagg have been writing songs together since 2008, and to date have a collection of over forty songs. This includes the full-length musical Erika’s Wall as well as two song collections. As a songwriting team, they were 2014-15 Fellows of the Dramatist Guild of America, and Erika’s Wall had its first workshop production at The Music Theatre Company in Chicago, directed by Jessica Redish.
Lyricist and songwriter Sophie Jaff and composer Kathleen Tagg met at the University of Cape Town in 1996. They both ended up in New York in the early 2000s, and in 2008 the two friends finally got together to write their own full-length show of cabaret-pop songs with a twist, entitled Apple Heart.
The songs from Apple Heart were first heard at the Gershwin Hotel in New York City in 2009. In 2010, Jaff & Tagg expanded a collection of songs from Apple Heart into Orchestrated Songs of Heartbreak, chamber poetry for voice and band that includes instruments associated with both rock and classical music (piano, guitar, bass, drums, harp, cello).
Their songs have been performed at Lincoln Center, 54 Below, the Gershwin Hotel and the Duplex Theater in New York and The Music Theatre Company in Chicago.
Kathleen and Sophie are both proud members of ASCAP.
